International Skeet Rules?

I have permission to set up one of the skeet fields at the club to International rules. I need a web site that tells me how fast to throw the skeet and in general, all the rules associated with International skeet.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hello JimBob, as I was interested in what I could find, it wasn't that easy. I did find some items, but no official rules so to say. Now, I'm not sure how official you want to get, but at the Clubs I shoot at they use the same Skeet field for whatever type of skeet members want to shoot. It looks like if you go totally official you'll have to set the Int'l field up only for Int'l shooting, as the birds are a touch smaller and faster, by what I read anyway. On the other hand, using the same field for all would be much easier, but with a mandated shooting requirement with low gun and delay rules. By low gun, it's not cheating like with 'sporting low gun half mounted' but rather the butt stock at hip until the bird is seen, then the mount. That in itself is the biggest difference. There's a couple links at the bottom you can scan thru, maybe I missed the rules in the sites. Anyway, sounds like fun and if I was in your area I'd shoot a few rounds with ya, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

What is International Skeet?

Skeet was invented in the United States as a way to sharpen shotgun skills for hunting upland birds. The game was originally shot with a dismounted gun and a variable delay on the target's release. Through the last 80 years, the American Skeet version has evolved into the game with a mounted gun and instant targets. There is another version of the game that exists (which by the way resembles the original game) and it is know as International Skeet.

International Skeet is the common name for the sport of skeet contested in the Olympic games and other international competitions. Also, it is the de facto variation of skeet shot in most of the countries around the world. In order to differentiate between International Skeet and the common variety of skeet shot in the United States, the latter variation is generally referred to as "American Skeet." While shot on similar fields of play, the two variations are actually quite different.

International Skeet targets are a lower profile target which fly faster and further than the American Skeet counterpart.

In addition, there is a variable delay of up to 3.5 seconds between the call for the target and the targets actual release from the trap house. The shooter must remain at the ready position with the gun at the hip until the target emerges.

If this isn't enough, the target shooting sequence includes Doubles at all Stations. Also the game is shot with special 7/8 ounce 12 gauge shells instead of the more common 1 1/8 ounce target loads.

In the United States, we have two sanctioning bodies for International Skeet, the National Skeet Shooting Association and USA Shooting. USA Shooting is the official National Governing Body and is responsible for selection of US Olympic And Pan American Teams.

Dom, thanks for the help. I'm needing the field layout and the speed on the skeet. I also need the general rules of the game as a few of us are willing to give it a try.

I'm going to call NSSA today and see if they can fax me a copy of what I need. Thanks for the help, and if you get over this way, look me up, we will indeed shoot a few together..
