Finelly, after all these years......
I received the Savage 170, Pump 30-30 that I have wanted for so many years. A kind gent from another forum responded to my plea, and sold it to me at a great price
The condition is much better than he said, with clean, sharp bore, good wood, and no rust at all. I had it shipped to my gun dealer here in Miami, and picked it up today. After a good cleaning, it just sparkles I guess its off to the range tommorrow!

Wrenchman,
I am just a dumb ole Country Boy, and I have no idea of how to post a picture here. Follow this link for Gun Broker.com, it shows one of these little rifles. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=30529471

I took the Savage 170 to the range today. I put an old Weaver K4 on it temporarily.
After shooting it at 25 yards to sight in, and then 50, with good results, I moved the target out to 100 yards. Three 5 shot groups, averaged 1 3/4 inches. One group was much smaller. I am pleased with the accuracy. I was shooting my handloads, of 34.5 grains of IMR 4320 pushing a Hornady 170 grain FP. I found the rifle quick to shoulder, and to have good 'pointability'. I am sure that this will be a very good heavy cover gun, and will fit in with my lever guns as a choice for hunting along North Florida creeks, and in the swamps I love to wade through.

A model 170 was my first deer rifle and like a fool, sold it when I needed cash.
Sure wish I had kept it. They are great rifles. Congrats on your new addition to the gun cabinet.

8X56MS,
Congrats on the new gun and the great groups. Kind of funny to see an ole Country Boy living in Miami, Florida. Not what one would expect.

Fabsroman says "Kind of funny to see an ole Country Boy living in Miami, Florida. Not what one would expect."
I am by birth, a South West Virginia mountain lad. The family still owns some of the land that they settled in the late 1700's. I have lived most of my life in rural North Florida, but then sometimes we go where life leads us. The pay is a lot better in Miami. The hogs around Lake Okeechobee better watch out, I am going hunting there next week. The Savage 170 is ready. I took off the Weaver, and mounted a Redfield FiveStar 2 x 7 20mm scope. I have 100 freshly minted 170 grain cartridges, and the ATV is all tuned up.
