finaly took the plunge
figured that i have this part time job that i can afford decccent scope on the 22/250. i didnt ordere the 25 power leo like i wanted. it cost way more than i want to spend and the 2506 has been showing me latly all i can do with 14 power and not be wanting more.
drumb roool please, and the scope is leos 6-18x40 target(tall knobs) with target dot reticle. i debated on getting the 30mm 4.5-14x40 vxIII but it cant be orderd with a dot and im not real sure about the side objective with no yardage marks on it. guesss i could make my own yard marks on the side ounce i get it looking at something at a known distance. the rifle its going on is rugers walnut blued tang safety vt 22/250. this rifle has the heavy 24" barrel instead of the now standerd 26" target grey with a big azzz laminated 4x4 for a handle. the rifle shot very good with 3-9 leo on it the few times i shot it. im curious to see how much difrence if any at 100yds itl make on the group size. hopefully i can see the 1" dot dance in the middle and not cover it up. i orderd this scope kinda out of the blue because i had a chance to look through the 6.5-20 leo that had the target dot. decided i just had to have one. so its now on the way with proud 22/250 waiting for it. and will more than likly be the best glass the rifles seen in a long time maybe ever. i dont feel one bit bad that ive paid more for this scope than i did the rifle. i dont think theres any thing wrong with that. will report later on how it works out. So you got an X-II and not the X-III?
It's a good scope, had one on my .223 but my only complaint was eye relief. That X-II 6-18 is very critical on eye relief compared to most other Leupolds especially when you're using it in the prone position. Other than that I watched a lot of squirrels EXPLODE through that scope before I replaced it with the X-III 4.5-14LR.

The dots are great when you have alot of lite, but at dusk and dawn they get hard to find. I think my next scope is going to be a 2 1/2 x 8 Leo handgun scope. I`ve got a 14 in. barrel in .222 on a Contender frame that is screaming for one. I tried to bear down and shoot a group, as much as you can with a 2X scope and a 4in. bullseye on the target. Believe it or not I put 4 of the 5 shots into a .620 group, pulled the other out abt 1 1/2 in. Still I figure a 2 in. group with a 2x scope is as good as you can expect.

ive looked through 6-18s and they seem bout like my 4.5-14vxIII as far as eye relief goes.
ive also looked through the new 6.5-20x40vxIIIlr. you can pretty well kiss eye relief good buy on this scope. a freind of mine has one on his #1 2506 and he wished hed of just got the 6-18 vxII the 4.5-14x40vxIII lr(30mm tube) more than likely will have good eye relief due to its lower power. ive also looked through this scope. off the top of my head i cant complain about anything so it must have been good. yeah low light shooting will be at a minumum. this wont normaly be a deer rifle(probly never). i think itl make me gladd i have the 4.5-14VXIII on the 2506. i just want it to to shoot small critters at long range. rock chuckn is getn ready to kick off. hopefully shel be ready to make some red mist. well see how hard that dot is to find when the suns comeing up, has the the rock chucks glowing orange. the dark shadow below the orange line fades away as the sun creeps up the mtn. |
