Angry Dog Laws & My Dogs-Dog Owner Beware

While I had the time, I figured I'd let ya'll in on why I hate to take Wild Woman & Scooter to the vet..and I would like to hear all ya'lls opinion on this..cause I could be just as wrong as they were...but here goes:

First off, I want to note the I have NEVER in all my yrs havin a kennel fulla dogs, EVER had this happen fore..so I reckon I've been blessed. Anyways, this time of yr, there is a leash law..and I have neighbors w/ 3 sooners that they let run loose. I have 2 other neighbors w/ dogs too that are penned up like mine. They've called the law..I've called the law..and 1 neighbor even took em to court! The dogs still ran loose..but only durin the day when everybody was gone to werk.
I know this cause when i would come home, the lid offa the dog feed box would be open, and on comin home early a few times, the dogs were in my yard. So I was madder than a wet hen when I came home early 1 day and found that pos dog had gotton through the lot and locked up w/ Scooter!! Dear Lord I coulda killt him, and woulda never blinked an eye. Mind you this dog is some kinda big ole bulldog lookin thing, 3 times the size of my Scooter girl...and Scooter is now 13 yrs old and I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. When he finally "let go" partially cause I already had a rope around his neck (no, they never put collars nor tags on em either) I put him in the wire dog carrier and called the animal warden (who's been the warden since I was a youngun) and told him that iffin he aint lock that dog up fer good, that I would fer him..and I told him that he would locked up from rigimortis. (er however you spell it)

So, he came & picked him up and took him away. I thought nuthin more of it, till a week later, I come home..and that SOB is in the yard! They musta bailed him out the pokey.

Well, a month later, wild woman is gittin ready to have pups by some unseen dog..which, after en emergency c-section, 2 looked like her, the other 10 (not a typo) looked like that same brown sob. He apparently scored twice. No wait, make that 3...Sassy also had 6 pups...that...looked just like him. Am I fumin? Uh..yeah.
Scooter also went to the vet after only havin 1 pup, 120$ later..she's fine. $600.00 later..wild woman is gittin her stitches out today. 19 pups...all in puppy heaven.
The decision to do that was out of sympathy really. There aint enough people in this small county would take 19 dogs, all half-breeds. Then there's feed, shots, space. And anyone takin them thinkin that they would hunt...would wind up leavin em somewheres iffin they didnt..er killin em then. So, I figured, best not to prolong the inevitable.

Now, I had to take days off from werk, spend all that money, and almost had 3 heart attacks. Are they liable for at least half of the money? Money dont grow on trees round here...and i got kids to feed. I usually dont think of things like this..I hate courts, more time off..etc etc...but there has got to be somethin..somethin I can do besides lettin them non-workin lazy idgits sit over and laugh their arses off..watchin me runnin dogs to the vet every dam week cause they are too cheap to buy a fence or chain to keep them 3 pos dogs penned up. Not to mention it's the law!

Wild woman is now fixed. Sassy is fine and Scooter is not able to have any more pups either. I keep my females un-fixed for breeding. I dont see why i have to fix them all because of somebody's else's negligence. I am also livin proof that either big dogs can climb fence, or they can "do it" through one. I dont think I have ever been so distraught over my dogs like that past month. Sorry this post was so long..but it feels a lil better to git it offa my chest....well..no it dont...that dogs needs rid of...

You should have kept one dog from each litter to do some DNA testing on to see who the father was.

At the end of the day, they should be liable for the entire vet bill, but it all comes down to a matter of proof.

1. Is their dog really the father?
2. Did their dog stray into your yard or did your dog stray into theirs?

I hate crap like that. People are just terrible.

I have a case right now where a guy wrecked his friend's motorcycle and doesn't think he should have to pay for it because his friend didn't have collision on the bike. People today do not want to take responsiblity for their actions, or inactions.

Lilred I sure understand your flustration. The neighbor who has a goofy looking greyhound she got from the greyhound shelter walked her dog daily on a leash and would stop in front of my yard and let that dog go to the end of its leash which was in my yard and that would really fire up my chessies, even if they were in the house, they would look out the window and start going off. I was going to work early one morning and let my dogs out to go to the bathroom. It was before 4am and I ran back in the house for a second. That lady was on the street and I didnt see her. My male dog Clyde ran into the street and bit that dog on the side. I paid vet bills as I felt I was at fault but the lady took me for a ride and it cost $1,200.00. Anyway I would have loved to have seen you with the rope around that dog separating them LOL.
Fabs, friend wrecked a buddys bike over at Redeyes. He just got road burns but the bike was totaled. $40,000.00 chopper.

i get out the pellet gun and pop in the strays that usually cures the prob.
another way is catch the dog and take it a diff. county shelter and say you found it wondering down the road, pretty good chance it will get a better home than it has now.
now if i had to pull a stray male off my female lab ( slim chance since my springer is a 62 pound male, humans have a hard enough time gettin' my yard) the stray would def. disapear off the radar.

To answer yer ques Fab...yep I'm sure it's allll his, and second..my dogs are in confinement..i.e a dog lot. My dogs never git loose until I turn em loose on the weekends.
I aint goin thru no DNA testin & all that..nobody would argue that's not the father..spittin images I tell you. But, I know aint no judge gonna go offa that. Too dam aggravatin..all this.
While them fools dont live right beside me, they live close enuf to hear the gunshot go off..LOL
But aint no joke..iffin he's in my yard, then he's fair game in my opinion..I would really hate to do that. It really aint his fault, and dogs dont understand such things. That's the only reason he aint been shot yet...the opportunities were endless to do so.

My husband caint believe how "quiet" I've been bout all this..and that I aint shot the dog. He wants to kill it..no questions asked, and I try to calm him down while he's runnin thru the yard w/ a shovel tryin to wack the dog upside the head LOL
He says " I caint believe the "Yosemitie samantha" I married aint goin off over this."

Yeah, you should shoot the owner instead, but that could land you in jail or worse. The longer I am on this earth, the more disgusted I get with people in general and society as a whole.

I might just get a T-Shirt printed up with that on it too. I just need to make sure that I write it down somewhere so that I can remember it. Sad thing is it is true. Practicing law probably got me there quicker than most.

!2 guage bean bags rounds.

Now lilred, I think that these works really well on dogs that were getting in my friends trashcans every week, That dog has not been back but we see him in the area so it is less lethal.

They seem to be a lot less expensive than your current Vet bills and i bet you got a 12 guage.

He picked up a box at the gun show.

Hey Red... another idea is to catch him and keep him till they come looking for him.

The 1st time I see one wandering I overlook it. the 2nd time... I'll dot 'em with the pellet gun and send them home... that's usually the last time I see 'em.

I have caught friendly ones too and kept them till I found their owners.

Like you said... it ain't really the dogs fault. I see the pellet gun as a training tool, not a punishment.

I have sent dogs home with notes on their collars too. reading "Please keep me at home... it's not safe outside our yard".
