Swimmer killed by gator in canal

The Associated Press
Posted July 17 2005

PORT CHARLOTTE · A man swimming in a canal Friday night was killed by an alligator, state officials said. It was the 17th recorded fatal alligator attack in Florida.

Kevin Albert Murray, 41, of Northport, was swimming in the Apollo Waterway when a 12-foot, 2-inch alligator attacked and killed him, said Gary Morse, spokesman for the southwest Florida office of the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

This one was 12'6", he would have had me in one bite!

val....is this the one that killed the man?.....why would anyone swim in a lake in florida anyhow...someone envented the backyard pool ....kind a like swimming in the ocean..nothing but fish food when you jump in there...I noticed you have gloves on..must have just came back from having your nails done..probably told the lady, gotta run..gators to wrestle...still amazes the heck out of me to see you next to those critters...

Val, isn't this waterway known to have gators? I'd be scared to death to swim in any water that was known to have them critters in it. And it wouldn't matter if it was a two footer let alone a twelve footer.
