Benelli R1 vs Browning BAR Safari in 300WSM which is the best?
What advantages or disadvantages does the Benelli R1 have over the Browning BAR Safari as far as accuracy, reliability, maintenence, and overall performance? Which would you pick?

Welcome To HC JC!
Well...for starters, you have alot of history of proven performance with the Browning BAR. I used my brother in law's father's BAR in 30.06 to drop a nice doe about ten years ago deer hunting in Wisconsin with my friends and family.
I personally have never shot the R1, though I have shouldered one at a dealer and admittedly was rather smitten with the rifle. I know alot of folks do not like the futuristic styling of the gun (same as the visceral reaction some have had for the new Browing Cynergy O/U's) Beneli is a quality product though. I am not familiar enough with the new ARGO gas system on this gun but would imagine that the recoil woould be somewhat comparable. Call me old fashioned but I'd personally opt for the tried and true Browning BAR. Good luck! |

With my little experience with each rifle(just shot 'em from friends). The Safari wasn't as accurate, but they both actioned quite well, and I liked the Safari as far as looks go, but I'd like to purchase an R1 if I had the choice of the two for performance(I don't purchase semi automatic firearms, so I am simply accustomed to pure performance)

I haven't shot a R1 but do own and hunt a lot with a BAR MarkII lightweight in 30-06.
Really like the rifle. 20" Barrel is fine for the woods hunting we do around here. Never had a jam. Being a handloader I can usually get 1" moa or less. Would I buy another one. You bet. As I remember the price on a R1 was over $1000. The BAR runs around $650. |
