.22mag revolvers

If you had a .22mag revolver could you shoot shorts and L.R.'s through it?

it depends on the pistol.

semiauto, no way

revolver, depends, some come with a mag cylinder, and a .22 shot/long/LR cylinder.

single shot, probably no problem, but you might get leading issues running the shorter rounds out of it.

best bet if you want an all around that fires all .22's is this...

Ruger produces a new model single six with both cylinders,
others that produce dual cylinder models are:

Uberti, Weihrauch KG (HWM), freedom arms, north american arms, that i know of.

There are older colt models that have oth cylinders, but unless your lucky they'll cost collector prices.

H&R also had a dual cylinder model at one time, but no longer produces it.

Some revolvers come with interchangeable cylinders- one cylinder for 22 magnum, the other for 22lr. As has been pointed out.
In the 22lr cylinder, you can use shorts, longs, or long rifles cartridges.
Cartridge dimensions of the 2 cartridges are different - 22 magnum case body diameter is larger than that for the 22lr.
Now, if you fire a 22lr cartridge (of any kind) in a 22 magnum chamber, you will most likely have a split case, releasing gas back thru the action, as well as dirtying up the chamber......
A bad scenario, and one to be avoided!
DO NOT fire 22lr cartidges in 22 magnum chambers.
So, the short answer is definitely NO, unless you have an interchangeable cylinder revolver.
