Grassland fires

A fire this weekend burned about 5000 acres in central SoDak. The walk in area at the Little Bend Recreation area is 30 some mile north of Pierre SD. I've hunted there for the last 6 years, and I will miss it.

So OK grassland fires happen.
Its a natural thing,sometimes.
Is there a "normal " recovery time for something like this?

There is 640 acres in a square mile.
X9 which is 3miles by 3 miles = 5760 sq acres.
Thats plenty small enough for most wildlife to escape.

I dont know about SD, but in MO, people burn on purpose. Your grassland may be no good this fall, but the next couple years outta be spectacular for grass and animals....

My buddy was an on scene firefighter. He say it may syart to regenerate itself yet this year. Next year,he says, will be better than ever. The grass will come in twice what it was. I'll just miss it this year. By the way, lightning is being blame for 20 or so grass fires over the labor day weekend around here. Including this one.
