model 70, i hope you sitting down for this one.
the main reason i carry a knife is out of habit. when i was a little boy i hated lining up at the pencil sharpener line before class. while everybody else was lined up i'd just find the paper basket and pull out my case pen knife and whittle on the pencil and return to my assigned seat and sit there and pick my nose while the rest were still fiddling around. next reason, when some rookie took a chest hit and the zipper on his flak vest was now inoperable. many practical uses for knives too numerous to mention, i would be lost without mine. it's as important to me as my billfold.

A knife is a great tool, use it all the time. For example, I carry one for: opening boxes and packages, stripping wires, cleaning fingernails, opening letters, taking off stray strings on clothing, cutting something to length... That's the normal everyday stuff I carry a pocket knife for.

Have carried one since grade school, oh yes that was allowed. We even had boots that had a jack knife sheath sewn on the side and that was the ultimate, otherwise it was in the pocket. We played mumbleypeg and strech with our jack knives during recess. Carried one even in the Army and then as a Law Enforcement officer for the next 27+ years. And now 17 years later I still wear a folder on my belt. Don't believe I'm a threat to national security or anyone elses's. Use them almost daily for numerous chores.

boy that sure brought back a memory, the boots with the built in knife pocket. seemed like the laces were about ten feet long. of course we were smaller then and everything seemed bigger than it was. thanks for the memory pardner.

![]() That response was only half a joke. Honestly, it is just that simple. I just cant list all of the uses. A knife is just that versatile and useful of a tool. I myself wonder why everyone doesn't carry one?

Billy D, You are welcome. Rember also the laces were leather and fun to lace when wet. Seem like they always would break when you were in a hurry. Those boots wouldn't be politically correct now a days.

didn't they used to call those laces leather wang? besides the boots something else that wuoldn't be politically correct would be when i took my 22 rifle to school so i could get in some extra squirrel hunting in before it got dark. we lived right on the city limits and it was just a short bicycle ride to go hunting. those were the days my friend. when we were taught to do the right thing and if we didn't somebody knocked the snot out of us and set us straight. of course it all effected us psychologically and we became law abiding citizens. ![]()

And they call these the golden years, I don't believe all change is good. Everyone should carry a good serviceable knife, it's a tool not a weapon.

i like that, a tool not a weapon. i carried one a while back but always kept forgetting it at home. plus, that kershaw was kind of bulky to clip on the inside of your pants pocket. i LOVED the spring assist feature though.
you know, alot of the people my age carry knives but for reasons other than it coming in handy. not sure their intent but from what i gather, it's questionable. alot of times in the past couple of years i would venture downtown and walk from bar to bar alone at times. heck, sometimes i've been so plastered i've had to sleep in my truck or wait for a ride for more than an hour in a dry business entry way. i sure did like having that knife on me. like a security blanket of sorts. |
