here we go again...
after last weekends bear hunt i figured a pitol would be best. after thinking about it i'm not a very proficient pistol shooter, cost ($500-600 for pistol vs. under $400 for rifle) recoil from a big bore revolver would be a bit much for my 150lb, 6'1" frame and muzzle blast would just plain suck!
so then i thought about a model 94 trapper in .44 rem mag it would be short enough to haul all over, the .44 mag would be more than enough with the 340gr. buffalo bore ammo and it's not a 30-30. not sure why but the 30-30 just doesn't appeal to me. plus, that real short barrel would be more than enough for the .44 mag. i mean, after all, they kill bears with pistols chambered in that round. the .44 doesn't seem like it would damage meat like my .270 at 20+ yards and with a good hard cast bullet out of that longer tube, the .44 surely would have no trouble penetrating the skull or shoulder bones. what are your thoughts? |
