It's official...almost
My application finally got approved for the Elmore County Search and Rescue. I submitted it a few months ago but it has to go through the Sheriff's office for a background check because no criminals are allowed. It's something I wanted to do for a while and now it's official. I'm in a 6 month probationary period. After that I'll be a full member. It's a good feeling knowing that I'll be out there helping people. When we're on a mission we are temporary auxilliary Sheriff's deputies, which is the reason for the background check. I'm real excited. Just wanted to share it with you.
Mike Anyone have any tips for a newbie SAR guy?

i hate to be redundant but why in the heck did you have to get a backround check when you are a 461? or can't they use that info? otherwise known as the trivial pursuit of pettiness. it would seem that two arms of government could work together and save time and money. but then i remembered thats not governments job is it? oh well.

Congratulations Tater.
As far as branches of gov't working together, GOOD LUCK. The gov't is way too big to have something be that effective.

Congrats, buddy! Can't offer advice for SAR; the only work like that I've ever done was from the air.
But here's a nugget to keep in mind: First, make sure there aren't TWO victims. (Watch your own step first!)

Sounds great and yup the backgrounds are all done so when working with the county you are covered on the insurance end of this = no big deal just a little more red tape lol
