Wich one ???

Greetings.

And a happy new year to all.

Lattely I have been looking at Remington's 597 in .22 Mag.
I been wondering if there is a big accuracy difference between the regular model and the heavy barrel one(LSHB) ?
I read that the LSHB is incredibly accurate for a .22mag,
but the standard model is far more versatile as it can be used with open sights when wanted.

Any ideas anyone ???

Denis.

Not trying to deter your choice of rifle, but I ought to let you know that my wife and I have a 597 in 22LR.

The thing has been nothing but a total nightmare from the start.\

Feeding problems, ejection problems, mag fouls up really easy.....

Found it to be a poor weapon for us and now it only comes out if we need an extra.....

My buddy's got the same feed problems and can only load 7 rounds in each magazine. I don't know about the 22mag but the LR seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Might also be a good idea to let us know what you want this rifle for??

Sub MOA target shooter? Gopher killer?? Plinker???

That can really help on the decision of buying a new rifle.......If you are looking for sub MOA target shooting then I would go bolt all the way.

Looking for a plinker? Most semi's will fit the bill.........want a semi that you can trick out like crazy??

Then you go back to the 597 and the Ruger 10/22

Alot of after market junk for these two models....And I have seen pretty good results from both after a good amount of money is spent on em

I will attack a pic of my Pimpedx Ruger 10/22.......I have spent ALOT of green on this toy...but its been all worth it

Yes my friend that is 24 carat gold plate on the reciever

Lightbulb Oupss !

Sorry I forgot to mention intended purpose.

Nothing special really, a little bit of everything.
A little groundhog,a little rabbit, crow and there is always the occasional fox and coyote.
I already have a 22-250 and a 22LR, so I am just looking for something to fill the gap.
Also I never owned a semi-auto, so the idea of a 597 in .22Mag.
sounded good.
I always been atracted to the .22Mag because it is a rimfire wich is mandatory for small game down here in Quebec.

Thanks anyway...

I think the 597 would work for you if you didnt mind spending a few extra $$ on after market components to make it work better......

Personally I think the 22WMR is a bit soft for coyotes......Id keep shots under 30 yards on them. Yotes can be a bit tough at times, and I have seen em stand up after a chest shot from a 25.06.

For myself I have always considered the 22wmr to pricey to be a good small animal round......You would(I think) also get better performance from a 17HMR. Thogh they are pricey to shoot as well.......For an in between round fro the 22-250 and the 22LR I would go with a .222 or .223.

Rabbit and crow would definitely reap the whirlwind with a 22 mag or 17hmr
