red dot for .44 mag revolver
Any advice for a red dot tube for my .44 mag. I want something that will hold up to the abuse of the round.

The BSA, and tasco`s won`t, lol. The aimpoint is top of the line, but pricey. Burris, nikon, leupold will all do the job. But, the problem with dot tubes is they can`t see in low light situations, like cloudy days and dense woods in early mornings. I have a Hakko sight glass that works well, the bushnell holo sights look okay. You might want to look into those.

I guess maybe it depends on how much you shoot. I have ran well over 200 hundred rounds thru my 44mag, and its topped with a Bushnell. Would have loved the Aimpoint, but couldn't afford it at the time. So far, mine has held up through 3 seasons, with no problems. If you do go with a Red Dot, I would really try to find one with some magnification. As already stated, they are tougher to use in low light situations. It has become easier though, since taking Rocky's advise, and keeping both eyes open. The dot just appears on the target, never even see the scope.

The 2x aimpoint i have has a VERY small field of view, with the tube being so thick around the glass you are looking through a real small hole. great for standing 50-100 yard shots, worthless for a 30 yard running shot, even with both eyes open as lonewolf says. Aimpoint says they are working on the problem, but have`nt heard if they fixed it in later models. I think someone else makes one, but have`nt seen it.

I saw one one a 12 guage shotgun two deer seasons ago that was as big as a beer can and really did like the light gathering and quick target aquisition. I think it was 56 mm but i can't remember the manufactor and 2x also.
That guy's got some money so i bet it was not cheap. I saw a cheap Barska 50mm red dot for about 40 dollars and though it might replace the banged up 2x simmons i have have on my ruger Mark II. You want something more reliable than that on a 44 mag. Might look at holosight system for it like the EOTECH. The're more like a mil spec version of the holosight and i think they might handle the recoil as i have seen them one several auto 45's with the slide recoil without problems.

I don't know but I've been told it's hard to swim with the weight of gold. On the other hand I have heard it said it's just as hard with the weight of lead. |

red dot
I bought a Bushnell Trophy 1X30 red dot at Dick's. I brought it home and opened the box to find the contents without a top cover and put in wrong. I placed the batter in, (yes it's right side up,) and couldn't get a dot. Now I'm pissed. I called Dick's and they said to bring it back. It appears as though this was already brought back to them and resold. I hope it's not a tell tale sign of the scope quality. I'm pissed at Dick's, I have a forty minute ride with two tolls to bring the thing back!
