Alright you long range bullet slingers!

There is a newly released cartridge that is sure to be the best long range anything getter ever.

The new cartridge is the .416 Barrett. Its loaded with 200 grains of powder, a 400 grain solid brass boattail spitzer, thats 2" long, with a muzzle velocity of 3,250 fps and remains supersonic past 2,500 yrds with 0.50 MOA accuracy.

This is based on the .50 BMG case shortened and necked down to the .416 caliber.

The dang things got my interest, but I guess we will have to see if its any good.

Let me know what you guys think about that.

????

BILLY D.

According to the article that I read, with the muzzle brake in place (and I don't think its removable) the dang thing kicks like a 12ga shooting 1 oz. slugs.

What I shoot is 100 grn Nosler BTs, from a Ruger M77MKII in .25-06. I've got enough gun! Just this new cartridge caught me by suprise. I'd herd of the 408 ChevTak and others, this one seams like it will be the ultimate for long range hunting and compitition.

I don't think you could measure the throat erotion fast enough to keep up with what this thing might do. But who knows it might last for more than one or two rounds.

Sounds interesting. I'm sure there are a lot of pit falls and bugs to be worked out yet. Proprietary bullets are always going to be a hassle. The cost of the gun itself is probably something that no one wants to swallow either. All in all I think it's great that there are people out there willing to experiment to extend the realm of possibility

Bulletpusher,

that one is the .408 cheytac, with builtin ranging computer.
That things performs very very well, but it's pricetag nearly equals it's performance.

plus there's very little in the way of bullet selection. The bullets they have are excellant, there's just not alot to choose from.

No idea on thorat life, but there's definately ones that last shorter.

plus if you have the moola to build one of those rigs in the first place, barrel replacement wouldn't be a huge expense.
