If you get a cheap gun you may as well get a cheaper caliber along with it... nothing remarkable about the vanguard. Just an average joe kind of gun. Personally in that price range I'd go over to Savage, and get a more popular caliber in that energy range such as the 300 winchester magnum. Along with switching to the savage brand rifles you generally increase accuracy quite noticeably.

Like i`ve said of the vangaurd, weatherby has the M.O.A. option saying it shoots that or less, that means they already culled the better shooting rifles out. So odds are against getting a really good shooter in the vanguard model.

I got the itch the other week and bought an A-Bolt hunter model in 300WSM. While the round is fairly new it has been selling well and should be around for awhile. I have been quite happy with my 308's for deer hunting but wanted to get a little more for an upcoming bear hunt. I did some accessorizing and reloading but have not made it to the range yet. I also looked at a Remington & thought about a Mod 70 but wanted the 23" barrel in the Browning. The blued A-Bolt was around $150 less than the SS and for as much as I'll use it that is fine. I don't plan on using it much for deer other than maybe just trying it out. I mounted a Monarch 2-7 and loaded some 165 & 180grn Gamekings with H4350. I also put in the medium Timney replacement trigger spring.
If you want any information on the round check out shortmags.org they have it all. |
