Dont know what you would call this, but
bread pudding comes pretty close...
I had guest for the past week, we bought donuts, pecan swirls, blueberry muffins and some kind of pecan breakfast ring. Ok so I am looking at this stuff and figuring its either gonna go bad or get stale...so this is what I did...took everything and crumbled it up in a corning dish...made tapioca pudding on the stove added cinniman and raisins, poured it over the top of the stuff and set in fridge..I am telling you, it was to die for. it set up like bread pudding really moist and good, so the next time you have bread or cakes getting stale try it, easy and fast and now most of it is eaten...yum,yum

Val You are making me hungry!!!
I haven't had bread pudding since my mom died 14 years ago. She never used any of the fancy breads but I can see they would make bread puddin all the better. Fact is there are alot of moms good old cooking I haven't had in a long time. I do make her liver dumplings every once in a while for my kids and nephews. I have to save some aside or I don't get any. |

ok val, whats the deal. have you been dieting since thanksgiving and christmas? and just come out of the closet.
my mom had a receipe similar to yours for pudding. she used to put dates and figs and chopped nuts in in hers though, but she used most of the ingredients you do. i don't know where she got the receipe or when, i know it's not german or yiddish. but i know it was downright delicious.

Sounds great, except for the cinnamon, I'm allergic to cinnamon, but bread pudding is great.
I thought I would throw this in, have you heard of coffee soup ? I remember I ate it when I was a youngun, half cup of coffee, homemadebread crumbed up, 2-3 teaspoons of sugar, and milk, I got my granddaughter eating it, ever time I get a cup of coffee at her house, I end up making her some coffee soup, she loves it, Pappy is the only one that makes it for her, Ha Ha. |

No I never have heard of that one, closest thing to that would be cornbread and buttermilk in a glass...

Larry, the coffee soup does put a question mark on the yuck faces people make when you mention it but we have made it for years too...and lots never heard of dipping jelly toast in their hot chocolate or tea either....bread,milk,sugar..goes way back here too.... I bet you don't live too far on the other side of the ohio river....I'm not that far on this side....close to New Castle too..

Hey Skeeter, I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, I was brought up on coffee soup as a yong'un, me & "Termite" loves coffee soup even though her mom & dad goes "yukk" but then I don't know if either one has tried it, but we still every so often have a cup, and she shares it with her Pappy.
By the way Skeeter, I have a buddy that lives in New Castle, we've been bear hunting together since 1990. |
