Anybody ever grow....

Peanuts? Besides Jimmy Carter. Didn't know if it'd be worth my while to grow some. I have 19 different veggies in this year so one more wouldn't hurt I guess.

Nope, but I wonder how well they'd do here in Alaska.

Peanuts are the main crop of a local town here Grapeland, Texas. They grow very well in hot sandy soil.

Hey Wahnie... Knowing what it is like in North Pole at the time they need to be planted...You'd need a little dynamite to get them planted. March is still kinda hard up there. And you'd be able to blast them up come late October when they need to be dug. I used to live down the road in the Clear/Anderson area quite a few years ago. I've grown 'em but not my cup of tea.

When I was a kid my Grandmother and I grew them. I would say it was worth it.

We doug them up and roasted them and they were delicious.

The do grow best in Sandy soil, just like anything else that grows under the ground.

BTW thanks for the Idea I might just plant some peanuts this year myself.....

On a turkey hunting trip to North Carolina a couple weeks ago, I stopped in a convenience store which sold hot boiled peanuts. This was something I had never heard of and had to try. WOW! They must be one of the best kept secrets in the south.
