Visited a surplus shop today
The shop is one of the largest and best surplus arms places in the area. It was a bit disappointing because there were just the same old rifles on the racks. The owner got in some Russian 91/30s in standard and sniper configurations with lovely stocks, mismatched numbers and dark bores. There are a lot of Enfields at decent prices in NRA good condition (which is not all that good). I was considering a Yugoslavian Model 48A, but have several already. What does the surplus arms market look like in your area? All the best...

Gil,
We have very few military surplus arms in our local shops. Occasionally we see a 7mm M95 Chilean rifle in NRA poor condition for $325 for the mis-matched specimen. Oh, to live JUST one day in 1961 again with $5,000 cash on hand, and I would be a millionaire today. Too soon old und too late schmart! (Auf Deutsch). Adam

Walked into a regular gun-shop (not even the surplus arms place around here, in Springfield, Oregon), and asked about surplus rifles, and he took me "in back" where there was a whole dang rack of great guns. MAS-35 (?- the French bolt-action carbine, might have the MAS-__ off some), four Enfields (Two III's, one IV (sporterized), and a Jungle Carbine), A bunch of Mausers (Yugos, Persians, and two genuine 98K's, and to end it all an 1889 Swiss and a 1911 Swiss. Nice set of guns, and all I could afford was the knock-around Chinese SKS...

Welcome to the Forum
Arcturus,
Glad to see you here and hope you post often. How much did they want for the surplus rifles? All the best... Gil |

Wleomce Arcturus
that was aprobably a MAS-36 you saw, not real common in my area, but one can be foudn if you look for it. Nice rifle too. Back to the topic, in the oklahoma city area, we have several good gun shops, and a couple of places that "specialise" in milsurp. |

Went to another shop
The owner has boxes, cans and piles of assorted stuff scattered around his shop. In one ammo can, I found .303 British military ball ammo in mint charger clips. I inquired about the price and was told $1.00 each. That is way too much per round and the shop owner said it was $1.00 for the 5 rounds of ammo with the charger clip. I took all he had. Some surplus places get $1.00 plus shipping and handling for the charger alone. Just love those local gun shops. All the best...

I see very few military surplus rifles in the gun shops. Mostly I encounter them at the gun shows. We see quite a few M96s and M98s and a few older Russian Moise Nagants. About 50 miles from me we have a store called Marstar who specializes in the older military jobbies. Occasionally they'll get a large shipment in, but that's still not a lot of variety, just a lot of the same old, same old! Best wishes.
