Military Rifle Matches
We are blessed with an ample number of local gun clubs that hold military rifle matches. Shooters come from all over to participate. The nice part is that one does not have to a club member or NRA member to shoot the course. There is one guy from New York who shows up every month. His dad was a WWII veteran so he latched onto an M1 Garand. After spending a lot of money to get his M1 rebarreled, new stock, match sights and whatever, he is turning in some decent scores. Another New Yorker drives down every month to shoot and he has no previous firearms experience. He just loves shooting military rifles.
This is a splendid time of the year to go shooting. Check out your local gun clubs. No one knows your scores except yourself. Enjoy. All the best... Gil |

Gil,
Very good post. A 1903 act of Congress established the National Board for the Promotion of (military) Rifle Practice. While some anti-gunners in Congress try repeatedly to derail the law, the shoot goes on. Please explain why (Paragraph 2)"no one but you knows your score?" We shift one place left and shooters score the person on their left's target and presumably knows that shooter's scores. The competitor then signs the score card before targets are pasted and we shoot the next stage unless there is a challenge. Did I miss something? All shooters on our range see the posted scores the day of our shoot and know how they did and it is repeated in the monthly newsletter to competitors. We are a friendly group and scores are not too important for old duffers who like to shoot their vintage military arms. Adam

Military Rifle Matches
Adam,
During a match only the shooter and the person next to them who completes the match scorecard know the scores. I meant that scores are not posted during the match. So actual scores of competitors are not known until after the match is completed and the results are posted. All the best... Gil |

Gil,
Thanks for the clarification. Our military arms matches are fun matches and there is always plenty of help for new shooters. We often lend our rifles to a new shooters and coach him/her along the stages. Adam
