Tips for raising pheasant?

It was 70 today! Plum crazy fer January...
I took advantage of the warm weather tho and we began preparing the garden fer spring. We also decided this year to plant 3 or 4 "wildlife" plots on the property. Mostly fer the 3 nice covey of bobwhites here and i'm hopin it'll keep the deer & rabbits out of the garden...well...maybe ease my pain a lil anyway..lol

Then i got to thinkin about raisin some bobwhite....and then got to thinkin bout pheasant. I've done the bobwhite thing fore...but could use some advice on pheasant. First thing's first...how much room would they need? I'm not gonna get a ton of em...I think startin out small would be best fer now...lord knows we dont need the headlines readin "Lilred massacres local pheasant population."

I think i have to have a permit too...which is fine. I reckon basic ideas would be a big help...I dont wanna jump into somethin i caint handle. But i would love it..I dont mind spendin the money...but are they very hard to care fer?

Stick with the quail lol
You need a ton of room for the pheasants or they will eat each other which they probably will anyway. This starts at about 5 weeks old and don't stop till you kick them out the door.
Also the quail will kill the pheasants when raised together.

Yeah..that does sound like a hassle...man that sucks tho....but i think i'll take yer advice.

Red i thought of doing it on the property i was leaseing but they take up lots of room for each bird you will need about a 100 feet
or a 10by 10 or they will kill each other and they still might.
Have you thought of buying adults and setting them loose?

just raise them like chickens, and to stop them feather pecking you can put bit`s on there beaks it helps alot,

Well we tried all the stuff on the beaks from blinders to cutting them and it is a short term fix at best.
They are canabilistic to say the least.

lilred my old Uncle and also a neighbour raised pheasants. You do need a lot of room for the birds. The other issue is they can be scared by predators and try to fly and get injured when they smash into the fencing. This is dealt with by either having really high pens (my uncles were 20 ft high enclosures) or going low......my neighbours are only 4 feet high and this seems to deter the birds from trying to fly. On average..........and I have raised lotsof animals in my life.......I'd say they are more of a PITA to raise than a lot of other things.

I really wanted em fer eatin and for the bird dogs to have some fun with.
I'll have to think on thisun fer a while...I got wayyyyy to much on my plate every day to have to worry bout a pile of mean birds killin each other and all that crap....lol
