Thinking of getting a new tattoo

I've been thinking about getting this on my upper arm in plain black ink. The rest of my family all have tattoos, but this will be my first. What do yall think? Yeh or neh?

I'm not a tattoo person, so guess that's where I'm coming from. Guess I'd also have to know what the tattoo stood for. Does it have a special meaning, that sort of thing and when I say that I mean does the drawing mean something?

Depends... If you think you'll be able to look at it in 40 years and say, I'm glad I got that, then go for it. If not, don't. BTW, one of my cousins got an armband inked in a few years ago, and he's already wishing he hadn't. It's all about how you'll look at it later. JMHO

Oh, and as far as placement goes, that would be about ideal. That way, if you want to cover it up a t-shirt will cover most situations - not so easily done if it's on the forearm.

The only tattoo that I'd consider would be across the center of my chest. It would read:

Organ Donor
Open Here

If you want it,then by all means do it. I had my 1st done in the Marine Corps,that was over 25 years ago,it has faded some but still looks good. Tattoos have come along ways from the days of the Hells Angels,they no longer mean that you are a hard core biker gang member. I have over the years added a few more, most recently last year an Eagle and the American Flag on my left inside forearm. Everyone of my Inks has a personal meaning for me, and I plan on at least a couple more before I am done. The next one I will travel to Florida to a tattooist that specializes in portraits, they look like actual photographs. I'm gonna have my father and 2 younger brothers put on my chest(my brother below me just passed on Dec 27th) So you can see I do them because they are special to me,and If someone is offended by them,then I guess they should not look at them, but I have never had anybody say anything derogatory to me about them. IMHO....FWIW

Too many down sides to tattoos. Always has been but you don't hear the horror stories of all the things that can (and do) happen. Somewhat like body piercings. You never hear the bad things that happen to some. I know personally of two gals who lost parts of their ears from having their ears done one too many times

Knew a girl that had one on her thigh. It read, "you must be so big to ride this ride."

Two guys were bragging about their manhood. One said, I have "welcome aboard" tattoed on mine. The other replied, I have "welcome aboard the U.S.S. Constellation" on mine.

Seriously, what upside is there to getting it? There's only downside IMO. In some situations and come a certain time in your life it is going to be a big pain the butt. They are expensive and painful to remove, kinda like an ex-wife.

Ive got some ink and it isnt a big deal these days----but---if you are going to do it make sure you think it through first. If you want it to be seen keep in mind the sun fades it and your peers will see it. If you should ever need medical attention in the area of your tatoo it is more difficult. Names are a no-no. I doubt if most of these people with asian writing and tribals even know what they are. Check out the artist, if he screws it up other artists will probably not want to fix it. But most of all remember it is not a part of you forever, but it will be there for the rest of your life.

I concur, that would look neat, although I'm not really into the gothic culture. I've seen some guys who did get the full name, but I would never get a band name tattooed on myself, even a band that has been as influential in my life as Opeth. The "O" is part of the band logo, true, but I look at it as more of a symbol representing my love for all metal and beautiful tribal-esque tattoos.

I've actually been thinking about a tribal tattoo for a several years now, but I have not found any that really fit the image in my head, which is best represented by the "O" symbol. Something simple, yet intricate as well. I can see the design clearly in my mind, but not clear enough that I can draw it out. Does that make sense?

This is definitely not a decision I'm going to make lightly. Its one I've been contemplating for a number of years because as has been said, this is something I'm gunna be sporting the rest of my life. I still have a few things I want to get done before I get ANY work done, so I'm not gunna just run down to our local tattoo parlor and get it slapped on next payday.

I do, however, have a place and artist picked out. I won a contest at a concert awhile back for $200 worth of free work from the most respected tattoo/body modification parlor in Alaska. The artist I've chosen is a friend whom I have known for almost 4 years now and I've come to greatly respect his work. There are no time constraints with the $200, so there is no rush.

I have one tattoo I got when I was 21 and I will get my second one next week. I am now 37. I weighed 240 pounds eight months ago and through hard work and excellent will power, I have lost over 50 pounds. The tattoo is a reward to me for losing the weight and feeling and looking better about myself. As far as wishing you hadn't gotten a tattoo later, I have never wished I didn't have mine. I put a great deal of time and effort in finding tattoos that I won't feel bad about having- ones that have meaning and value to me and I am always proud to have on my arm. Pick something that is important to you and you will always be proud of them.

My kids got them. So did I back in "68" when in the Navy. Its now the prettiest blue blod I ever saw. I consider my tat one of the things in my life I should have never done. However to each their own.
