Question .30-06 for moose ?

I know most folks thing that the .30-06 is adequate for moose, but what grain bullet is most appropriate? Would a 180 grain bullet do the job, or should I go to a heavier, 200 grain bullet? (I do handload, BTW).
Thanks in advance for your input.

The 180 will be plenty for moose. I would stick with a good quality bullet and you should have no problems.

I know many people that use the '06 for moose all the time.

Like toxic yes a 06 is just fine for moose. Your a handloader so a good nosler, barnes or anyother premium bullet will do the trick.

Most local in Newfoundland use 270's, 280's or 06's. They see more moose killed in a week that we do in a lifetime.

Over the last 15 or 20 years the Magunum craze has lead us to believe that big game are immune to standard rounds. No so. Good hunting.

I doubt there is a caliber that has killed more moose than .30-06. I'd use it on any moose hunt weather it was an 800 lb. moose in Newfoundland or one twice that size in Alaska.

I would prefer a premium bullet that is at least as tough as a Nosler Partition, I'd prefer a Trophy Bonded Bearclaw or Swift A Frame. I prefer 200 grain .30 caliber bullets on game, but I'd gladly hunt moose with any good 180 grain.

Let us know what you choose.

2117 easton shaft,125 gr. thunderhead, 68lb pull anf you're good to go. Oh I'm sorry that wasn't one of the options. My bad.
Seriously 30-06 and 180 is a good combo. I wish you luck.

Any good 180 should be plenty.

I never hunted moose but with 180 grainers you can load up to .300 H/H equivalent.
