Dan Morris,

I understand Singer had a WWII limited "Educational Contract" to build M1911A1 pistols and did make 500 of them and stopped.

I saw a Singer M1911A1 once that laid in a damp cellar for a few years in the GI holster after the demise of the WWII veteran. The pistol was solid rust! If you put your Singer in a safe deposit box, be sure to heavily grease it (inside and out) and wrap it in kraft paper to perserve your treasure.

One more thing: Many banks will NOT allow firearms to be placed in safe deposit boxes. So, maybe, it is a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" scenario. Another thing, most banks do NOT insure stuff in safe deposit boxes, so maybe you need to separately schedule that Singer by serial number with your insurorer.

You really did well!

I like a story with a happy ending. I have seen one Singer 1911A1 that was very badly rusted and pitted and missing some parts. Still sold for $1,000.00. All the best...

Guys, I got this for a shooter, gun is about 75/80%. Guy said it was his dads and he had no use for it........I traded him a Camry transmission for it. More I looked at, the finish and the markings just looked 'different'.........neither one of us had any idea what it was. I simply paid for the tranny.
When asked what kind of payment we take, I have a standard
answer.."cash/check/money order/cc/comanche wampum or 45 autos" Boy, I had no idea I'd ever pull this off...still in a state of shock! I've picked up some good iron by this spiel but never in a lifetime did I ever dream of this.....

Dan,
I am a Ruger collector, have been for 33 years. Please do not store any good gun in a rag oiled or otherwise. Cloth draws moisture. For long time storage, this is what I have done, and I just took some guns out of the safe that had been in storage, un-seen for over 20 years, without a mark on them.

Get a large, thick, food storage plastic bag, remove the grips, put the gun in the plastic bag and spray the gun, in the bag, with G-96. Spray to oil and to remove the air. Roll the bag up around the gun, bottom to top, sealing the bag to the metal, forcing the air out. Put the bag and gun into a good gun rug, place the grips in the gun rug with the gun. Your gun can set like that for 20 years without rust. Moisture can not get to it through the plastic and the oil can not dissapear as it is held on the steel by the plastic. The gun will not develop moisture inside the plastic as it is bathed in and setting in oil.

This is my long term storage program. If the G-96 dries up, it will leave a gummy protective brown film, remove it with what else, G-96. Spray it on, let it set a minute and wipe it off, clean as a whistle.

Who said there was no Santa Claus, huh....

Thanks all for the advise. This one will be visited monthly. Grips are off and I assure you it's stored in a way it is not gonna rust!
