Ruger super redhawk
got to shoot one in .44mag and i LOVE it. i thought it may be a bit of a handful but it didn't seem much more than my 4" gp100 with .357 loads. shot up 50 rounds real quick and i didn't notice any discomfort. very accurate with it too. cost is the only problem but i'm starting to save. love this gun.

I have a 2nd year production (1988) Super Redhawk with a 9 1/2" barrel.
Bought her new, many, many years ago. I drooled over the thought of owning one when I heard Ruger was gonna produce what was back then a truly modern hunting revolver. She is in pristine condition and has only been fired a handful of time in the last 20 yrs. I still have plans for her.

I have a Super Redhawk 7.5" in Target Gray SS. I think the main difference is the Super redhawk has the scope bases right in the frame of the gun & a short shroud extending over the barrel some. I see the prices are going up to the $600 range now for the Super Redhawk. I have a range of loads from Max charges of Win 296 under a heavy cast bullet to light loads with Hodgdon Universal. If your not a reloader to can always shoot 44 special loads in your 44 mag. For me the 7.5" barrel is just about right. I like my regular holster so I don't plan to scope my gun anytime soon.

The Red Hawk is double action and the Black Hawk is single.

the difference between a redhawk & super redhawk is the super is beefed up. take a look at the redhawk and the super redhawk and you'll notice the additional support for the super.
both are both good guns. keep your eyes open,i got one last summer with a scope for $350.00. you should get rings with the super. i couldn't beleieve how well this ruger handled, and it just loved 15.5 grs blue dot and a 240 gr lswc. it shoots just as well with 24 grs h110 and a 240 gr xtp. i might give some 300 grainers a try yet this year. |
