Talking Mossberg 500 20 gauge

One of the few wal-marts around that still sells guns has a mossberg 500 pump with wood stock, vent rib, cut checkering, blued, twin bead, accuset chokes in 20 guage with a 3" chamber for $204. If you count the wifes discount it would be $183.60 plus tax, and if we wait for her single item Christmas discount in fall it will be $163.20 for it plus tax (not that I really want to wait and hope they still have it with season comming on) My question is what is your opinion on mossberg, the price, the reliability, etc? AND does anybody know of any reviews on it out there.

Thanks

GoodOlBoy

PS First one to suggest I buy a $3K-$25K shotgun instead gets kicked in the shin.

I bought a 20 ga. 500 for my son many years ago. I don`t think that they are as well made as the Rem. 870, but I was very happy with the gun. In fact when going out by my self I often took it because of it`s lite weight. I think that I gave $ 179 for it with a slug barrel included. Like I said that`s been several uears back.

One of my buddies has a Mossberg 500 in 12 gauge and another has a Remington 870. I haven't shot either of them, but from working on them I can tell you that I would prefer the Remington. With that said, the Mossberg works just fine and would last just fine.

I've been using a Mossberg 500 turkey gun for years.
I selected it not because of any love for Mossbergs, but because the safety was located where I prefer them.
My opinion of the Mossberg 500 is that it's not very pretty or fancy, but it's like the Energizer Bunny- it just keeps going and going
Never had a lick of trouble with it, and it's always performed well.
There are also a bazillion aftermarket toys for the Mossberg 500.
I also know the miltary has used a bunch of Mossberg 500's. fwiw.

Thew Mossberg 500 is a well made shotgun that offers great value for the price. Very reliable, and often used by police departments.

Not the fanciest gun around, but worth buying. I think you will be pleased with it - Now, and in 20 years.

I've owned several.

wellll as fate would have it the wifes vehicle broke down yesterday. With only a $400+ repair bill looks like I have to hope this thing will still be in the cabinet in a month or two Thats life.

Still thanks for all the advice, and should it survive to make it home with me I will certainly post about it.
