Question Mystery cartridge

A friend of mine said his dad owns a rifle chambered in .22-02. I have never heard of such a cartridge. Does anyone have info on this caliber.

I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean it didnt exist.

Still i'd take a closer look at the firearm in question.
make/model would help alot in figuring it out.

The 22-02 is not in any of my books. I can`t figure what the 02 would be. There are a couple of versions of the .22-06 though, but it easy to figure out what the 06 is.

Catfish, _if_ there is such a cartridge, i'm thinking it might be similar to one of the old "parlour" cartridges from the turn of the century, used in a manner to the old 32-20, or 25-20

come to think of it, a small .22 with 2 grains of BP might have been just the ticket back then for the little indoor parlours that "gentlemen" went to shoot at in the city.

Just a wild guess on my part, but it sounds feasible.

Hi Guys

Just got back from Minneapolis a couple of hours ago. I happened upon a mention of 22-06, 08 and 10. They were in the book I was reading, old Maynard type cartridges with HUGE rims for firing in single shot Maynard Rifles. However I didn't get to write down any of the specs. They did not mention any thing about a -02 cartridge though. I will be going back in a few days and study the article a little closer and get more facts.

gumpokc may have hit upon the answer. They were made for parlor shooting much like the Flobert Cartridges. The Colibri's are similar as they only contain a priming mixture.

Bill

Its definately not the Winchester Model 02. I asked this friend how big these shells were and he replied, "Oh about this big" holding his fingers about 2 1/2 inches apart. He may have been exaggerating but its definately not a .22 Lr or any, "parlour cartridge".

Smile

It turns out tha the guy was just a forgetful idiot. No matter how many times his father told him it was a .222 he still called it a .22-02. Heres the scary part, I looked at the gun and the little stamp on the barrel plainly said ".223 REM." I hope he made a mistake or else he's been shooting .222 ammo this whole time. Oh well thanks for the help.

Two-year-old thread revival.

Sounds like there were TWO idiots on the loose there.
