Are there any groudhogs in Saskatchewan?
Are there any groundhogs in Saskatchewan and where in Saskatchewan are they.
I want too shoot them with my Weatherby Vangaurd SS in .243 WIN shooting 55gr. Ballistic Tips. I put a Rock mount bipod, Tasco 2.5-10X42mm scope, and Kolpin sling on it. Is this a good choice? Minihuntur

Where in Sask?
I cant remember seeing any in southern sask at all..... And I am also not sure, but I think they are considered fur-bearers and are protected in areas of sask......might want to check the synopsis!! Im gonna research it a bit myself!

I have never heard of any here at all either... They are more to the east (ontario and & east of there)
The rig that you have set up would be great for gophers though... and coyotes!

Mini, any rifle that fits you and you shoot it well is a good choice.
When you graduate to larger animals, big deer, moose and above, you will wand a larger caliber. Shot placement is the key! Dan

I won't use my .243 on anything larger than small black bears until I am very, very experienced. Hopefully next gun will be Savage M114 in 7MM Rem with 3-9X42MM scope and sling. That'll kill 'em really dead.

I doubt that 6MM would work as well on elk or moose as a 7MM would though.

Elk n Moose are a whole nuther story...a 7mag or a simple 3006 will be good, or the 270. A lot depends on your physical size and how well it fits and you shoot it!
