Spur of the Moment Elk
I wasnt planning on hunting this year. But, a fella that I work with conned me into going yesterday. The place I have hunted in the past is out, the rancher is full up.
Were thinkin of going to Colorado for the third season, Nov 3-9. But, open to any suggestions. Even suggestions on where to go in Co. Ive never hunted anywhere else but this one ranch. Help!! |

Send me an email. I have hotspots in 3 or 4 different areas in the state. From Meeker to Baggs, Wy and in the Eagle's nest near Siverthorne,CO. That unit is special draw, the others are not. There may be some left over tags for the Eagle's nest unit and worth finding out before you get a general tag for all the other units. There's a reason you have to draw
Ol' Spark is heading to North of Meeker 4th season on a private ranch (could be the one you hunt?)

The Eagles Nest
Haven't even heard of that area in years. Ever been up to the Eagles Nest itself, Petey? Neat area...and if ya know the stories of the place...kind of spooky. Rough up there too!

Yeah, killed this bull in the Nest in 2004. I'm probably going back next year. That place is my idea of true Western Mountain hunting. Straight up and straight down. Has everything from the dark timber to open parks and aspen meadows, hidden lakes on top, just beautiful. Start out hunting around 9000 and go on up till you can't breath!!

Pictures of the Nest
here's some more pictures...making me want to head back this year! Darn you Andy!
Notice the "steepness" where my bull fell. Pictures still don't do it justice. It fell around 9400 feet, not even halfway up the mountain you see in the picture above. Doing things the proper way. Everyone needs to pack an elk out on their back in a hole to appreciate the love of hunting these animals packing out another bull

I'll give you a buzz today...talk to your friends and see what they'd prefer to do. I can put you in a general tag area that has a lot of bulls also but hunting cows might be your best option for first time success. What about deer tags? I always have a deer tag with me too and almost always come home with a descent mulie when hunting elk. Kind of a bonus deal
