27 Turkeys in my hayfield today.

Our PA Spring gobbler season opens April 26, 2008. I plan on using my .50 caliber smoothbore Mansfield barrel on a T/C Hawken flintlock platform that I patterened yesterday at 35 yards. I use 75 grains of Goex 2F, a bore button, 80 grains equilivant of #6 shot and a top wad.

My neighbor is an enthusiastic fellow who gets up at 0500 daily and scouts for turkey hereabouts. He told me that there were 27 turkeys in my 20-acre hayfield this morning and he has them on video. Kelly is an expert caller for a 20-year old lad. He wants to take a gobbler with his compound bow here on my farm.

It will be a hunt of "Primitaves:" On April 26 he will have his compound bow and I will have my trusty flintlock smoothbore. Tally Ho!
