Radial Sound
Doing burgers out back when I heard what sounded like radial engines...looked up and a B17 overhead going SSE. I have no Idea where it had been or where it was going...was about 3K agl.
I get a charge when I see one of these ole war birds.....last week was a B25!Seeing more of this old stuff lately. Dan

I lived, at one time, near an airfield that had a B-17 and a P-40. They held WW2 airshows there once a year. I saw the B-17 and P-40 fairly regularly in the warmer months. You could always tell those piston engines by sound alone.
During airshow week, all kinds of old planes flew in. Spitfires, P-51's, TBF's, etc. And some modern stuff, too- the Air Force or Air Guard would send something each year for a flyover on show day. I saw the F-117, A-10, F-15, 16, and 18, F-8, and some of the transports:C-130's and C-141's. The nice thing was, all the planes stayed fairly low, and flew around the area a bit so everyone could get a good look at them.
