Bullet Prices have gone APE!
Gas prices have gone down cause the price of crude has gone down. But !!!!! Bullet prices are still going up!!!!!!!!! And the price of Copper and Lead had hit almost rock bottom!!!!!!!
Who is sticking it to us? Is it the Manufacturers,? is it the Middlemen? or is it the Retailers? Those of you who are able go to the Shot Show next month, please ask each Bullet manufaturer this question. Hornady, Sierra, Speer, Nosler, Barnes and others! Don't leave any of them out! And come back and tell us on this forum what the excuses are!

The reason (not an excuse) is that there is a time lag involved. The stuff on the shelves today was made with raw materials contracted for a year or so ago, not yesterday.
It took a year or more for bullet prices to climb when raw metals prices were rising, and it will take a while for the prices to come back down now that metals have fallen again. It may be exacerbated by the current "Obamaphobia" ammo hoarding, but that's not the manufacturers fault, it's ours. As somebody else said, "If we idiots are fighting each other to pay outrageous prices for stuff, why would the sellers lower the price?"

Story's I'm reading is that Sportsmans Warehouse is in deep financial do-do and is not stocking much. I also heard (and of course if you read it on the i-net IT HAS TO BE TRUE) that they are being bought out by a Canadian outfit that wants "in" to the American market.

Past tense. They're already bought.
SW had an absolutely moronic supply system. ALL their stores, no matter where, were supplied by one central warehouse (here in Utah). Worse, the store managers had little if any say about what to order or when. It was all standardized. That meant that the store in Ft Lauderdale had to stock snowshoes, for example. And also that a store would get re-supplied with a given item only when ALL stores got it, no matter if that item was a slow seller or had been sold out the minute it arrived. Stupid. We can only hope that things improve.

Some of us remember the Clinton administration and similar goings-ons then as well....there was a rumor going around that the administration wanted 'expirable' primers that would be no good after a certain date.....things were exacerbated by a lot number on a batch of primers starting with "EXP". ![]() While I fear the Obama administration more than any other (mostly due to the likes of Pelosi, Schumer, Feinstein, et al), I think he has much, MUCH more on his plate to worry about than us.....the economy is in shambles, the war still goes on in Iraq & Afghanistan, ect, ect.....he has made so many promises to so many people, and those issues are more pressing right now. Plus, I think that the Democratic party is still reeling from the last election where those who supported gun control lost elections. Even though they control things now, if they want to stay in control, they better A.) Pony up and do what they promised as far as the economy, jobs, ect and B.) tread lightly in the area of gun control. FWIW

Rocky, What you say might make sense about it taking some time for prices to rise but the prices are still rising!
THe central purchasing is not uncommon in this industry. Look at the Bass Pro Shop! And the Air Force Exchange! Both stock Camo for the Ozarks in the Nevada Desert!

Mr. 16 gauge, SW hasn't had fly tying materials for over a year. I think the financial problems is the reason.
