A Swede M-38 6.5x55MM.
Our weekly "Penny Saver" paper advertised a yard sale "Of hunting stuff." I went over and saw an Excellent, matching M38 Swedish 6.5mm Short Rifle. We haggled and the Swede came home with me. It has the threaded muzzle for blank firing and I happened to have a spare threaded four -fluted muzzle brake that fits nicely.
It is raining right now, so tomorrow I will test fire this rifle. I always liked the 6.5 Swede. Who else likes 'em? Adam

I bought an M96 back in the early 80s that I sold because I had difficulty finding ammo for it (at that time, only Norma made ammo for the rifle). It shot a group at 100 yards that I could cover with a dime! I could kick myself for selling that gun!  I later bought a 2nd one at a gun show....fellow was going out of business and wanted to get rid of his stock...bought the best looking bore in the lot for $85. Took and sporterized the rifle, as I wanted to hunt with it...did some of the work myself and had some of it professionally done. So far, I have taken two mule deer, two antelope, two whitetails, and a hog with the rifle. It has minimal recoil (about the same as my .30/30) and is quite accurate with the right handload....mine seems to prefer 129 grain Hornady's and 100 grain Sierra HPs. I love the gun and the cartridge.....I look forward to many more hunting trips with that 'old' military sporter.

I have messed with a few Swedes over the years. The ones I've seen have all been in good shape, and shot very well. I think there are a couple reasons for that.
1) Swedes never were under combat conditions, so, you rarely (if ever) see one that's really beat up. 2) Take a look at that barrel- they basically were all bull barreled rifles. The barrel diameter is rather large for a 6.5 bore diameter. I have a few friends that hunt with sporterized 6.5x55's- that's a really excellent cartridge.

Mr. 16 gauge,
I have a nice M96 Rifle and another M38. I handload all my ammo including the 6.5 Swede. I like the 129 and 140 grain spitzers. Adam

Preaching to the choir here. I have mex mauser barreled 6.5x55 and it goes to deer camp year after year. Nosler 120 ballistic tips puts meat in the freezer. jplonghunter

I have a 1915 dated M96 Swede with matching numbers and a 1942 dated Husqvarna M38. Both are in excellent condition and shoot very well. Swedes are one of my favorite rifles.
I also handload for my Swedes.

I got hooked oont he lovely swede with my friends m38 carbine.
I want to get one sometime, just it's abit down the list right now. I did pickup a _very_ nice Ljungman, but the problm with it, is it's in much to nice a condition to fire :/ There is a Husquavera (spelling) sporter in 6.5x55 that i'd liek to get at a local shop, but dont have the disposable funds at the moment.
