Rifle sight in

Well took a friend out to the local Range(Cody) yesterday. Sighted some rifles in. We had 4 with us. 3 Rem 700's and a Weatherby.

The guy got 2 of the 700's at pawn shops. One was an ADL in 270. Bore sighted that sucker. Had a Bushnell Trophy 3 x 9 x 40 on it. 2 Shots after the bore sighting and it was 2 inches high at 100 and it shot really well. factory 130s did just slightly more than an inch at 100. Only bad thing about the rifle was the trigger was a fair amount heavy. Probably 6 lbs or so.The 2nd he bought locally from a guy. 700BDL in 7mm Mag. Gun looked good. He had bought a Leupold VX II locally for 100 bucks. Put it on the rifle. Bore sighted and the thing was at point of aim at 25 yds..for the 1st shot. Won;rt hold zero at all. Checked the action and scope screws and all were tight. Have an idea that the scope is acting up so gonna take it off and put another Leupold 3 x 9 on it. 3rd rifle was a 700 BDL in 223. Put a Burris Fullfield II with mil dot reticle on it. Bore sighted the darn thiing. Off left just a bit but got it right even with the wolf POS ammo the guy had. It even grouped at an inch or so. with an ocassional called flier. Surprised it shot that well. The last was my Weatherby 257 W mag. Bore sighted and it was about an inch low. Fixed that to shoot about 1 1/2 in high at a hundred. Gotta let it cool a bit tween shots(ambient temp was 95) but the sucker is a shootin rifle. 6 through 10th shots grouped just slightly larger than 3/4 in and that is great for me these days. Gonna shoot me an Antelope and my deer this year with that one. . Bought the rifle a month or so ago and was hoping it would shoot. Was pleasantly surprised. My old Brevex actioned 300 Weatherby won't shoot anywhere near that good...in fact it is a nasty rifle to shoot. Kicks the snot outta ya and makes a horrendous noise. The guy just found a really nice Remington 700 BDL in 300 Win Mag....at another pawn shop. Has a Leupold M8 4x on it. They offered it to him for 525..which I guess isn't too bad. 125 buck scope anyway. No sales tax in Montany either. Now I gotta sight in the 300 H&H and 35 Whelen. Early Elk hunting in a place where the grizz are fairly numerous....and shootin is like ringin a dinner bell for 'em...and the wolves too. Most people do not hunt alone in that area for that reason.

Skeet, A recent article in the Casper Star-Journal says you elk hunters that leave nice gut piles are the reason the park grizzlies run to the shot. They have given up white pine nuts and squirrels for the big meals. I wonder what they eat before season other than live elk and my rancher friends cows and calves.
