Hey Adam
Adam,
Need your advise. I know that in the past you have talked about shooting a 54 Cal. I just happened to pick up a brand new, out of the box 31"- 1 in 66 twist barrel for my renegade Flinter. Along with the barrel I got me a pound of 3F, .530 Speer Balls and .018 Ticking. 80 Gr. was about a 3" 5 shot group at 50 yards today. 85 Gr. yeilded about the same. I ran out of time today due to having to work for a living. Could you spread some past experience with me and give a good starting point.

Pre-64.
I am always glad to share loading data. It sounds like you have a Rounball barrel. I would try 75 grains of 3F and .015 patches. If your .018 works ok, stick with that and try 75 grains since you already tried 80 and 85 grain charges. I use 3F in two of my .54 guns while another likes 75 grains of 2F and patched ball. Good luck. Adam

Adam,
I had to throttle her back a little. 80 and 85 grains of 3F was tear'n the patch up pretty bad. 70 Grains gave me a perfect burn according to the recovered patch and the accuracy was a nice large cloverleaf group at 50. I was hoping to get good performance with full power loads, you never know when one of us crazy front loaders may pack one of these things for BearYou know our season is only 2 weeks away
