An HONEST Military Arm Ad!

In yesterday's "Penny Saver" weekly paper was an ad: "M1 Garand Rifle $500.00." I called the phone number last evening and the gun owner answered my questions. He gave me the serial number and other descriptive information right down to the eagle with 3 stars over it stamped into the stock on the left side. (That is the Springfield Armory stock cartouche for a Match Rifle.)

I drove the 10 miles round trip and indeed found a National Match Garand in Perfect condition with a 5,xxx,xxx serial number. Yes, let the buyer beware indeed. Today at the range the rifle shot like a match rifle I shot in years gone by. See, it pays to ask questions and run out all ads.

It depends

The law of averages says you win some and you lose some. We just keep trying. All the best...

That's outstanding!!!!!!!and a National Match to boot. We all know the prices at gun shows. I don't think I've see an M1 Garand for under $800 and in marginal condition at that. I'm jealous. Are you and skeet related?

muledeer,

I like to go shopping. Last December I found a mint M1898 .30/40 Krag rifle for $450. That was the asking price from a nearby farmer.

The guy with the Match Garand wanted what he paid for it back in the DCM days. I recall I got a rack Garand from DCM for $118.50 back then. Nowdays a grand is about the going rate for an original Garand.

buckhunter,

I have no recent experience with the CMP (formerly DCM) Program and the guns they sell.

CMP rifles

CMP has a website at www.odcmp.com and they list a number of rifles. The prices keep going up and some rifles are not available. All the best...
