Idaho nonresident hunt

Hello Gents,

I am going to purchase deer tags for my 2 teenage sons and me in Idaho this year. They told me over the phone they have not sold out yet. Can any of you Idahoans give me an idea of a good region to purchase? The goal here is to be able to give my boys a shot at something more than a spike or a fork horn, not necessarily a trophy of any kind. Also, it would be good if there is a bear population in that area as my tag will let me tag a bear or deer. The main concern is that my boys get a chance to shoot, though. Any and all information is appreciated.

Thanks

My pick in Idaho would be way up north in Boundary county. Some nice deer and black bear, though they have had some very severe winters the last 2 out of 3 years so deer pops are a little down. Areas to look at might include the Katka Ridge area, Spruce Lake, and Copper Falls area. Lots of Federal land to hunt.

Many thanks Rainy! I will look into that. I took a Black Bear just north of Libby Montana about 6 years ago sounds like your talking about just west of there.

By the way, do you know if there is a Grizzly population in that area? Just curious.

Griz are a concern anywhere in MT or ID, especially the wilderness areas. Follow bear safety protocol for sure. Any luck on the Deer?

maybe get a motel room in mcCall and do some scouting and talking to locals. the area around mcCall is freindly and pretty much all open public land to hunt. reg rifle season is about to open then close range goes alittle longer to nov6 i think.

up north close to canada may be better for bigger deer maybe? and a grizz might be seen but most likly not.
