Muzzleloader Range Day.

Next Saturday, October 13, 2012, our muzzleloader deer season of a week duration begins. It was an Indian Summer sunny day today so old dawg and I were at the backyard range. I relearned how to shoot a flintlock. I had a .45 a .50 and .54 flinters. My trail camera indicates there are several deer calling this old farm home.

The week-long deer muzzleloader season is for antlerlesss deer only while archery folks have 6 weeks for either deer which began September 29. I will carry my .50 smoothbore flint Hawken with shot and patched ball since the grouse and squirrel seaon also opens the 13th.

I like flintlocks very much because they require lots of attention to details and they were ONCE State-Of-The-Art on this land. On October 13, 2012, they will be so again. I also carry my 'hawk afield in case of need.

Good luck with your flintlock hunting. I will have to say hunting with my flintlock is the most exciting way to hunt. Let us know how ya make out.
