Bone points (arrowheads)
Been starting to work my own points out of deer bone (most of it more than a season old that the dogs have in the yard) in the evening when watching tv. Gives me something to do with my hands, and I haven't done this since I was a kid. Only tools I use are a pocket knife (scrapper), hacksaw (for rough blanks), and a bastard file. I let the bone tell me what shape it wants to take. I go slowly so that I don't get up alot of dust, work it over a towel to catch the dust I can, and if the bone has a odd smell at all to it it goes back out in the yard.
Still to do on these is... #1 Pine resin impregnation (from natural pine resin) to add strength and counter decay. #2 Cut string notches close to the base of the heads for mounting. #3 mount #4 final sharpen (most of these will already cut you if you aren't careful) Top item in the pic is a canvassing needle made from a spur that broke off. Still working on it. GoodOlBoy

Bone Points
Nice! I might have to give that a whirl sometime.
I was reading a book about Chief Plenty-Coups and was surprised when he said he never saw a (then) modern Indian using stone points.

Waiting to see the finished points, looking good. Often thought about trying to make them out of antler material.

Yep the holidays has cut into my point making process, but I will get back to it soon as we get through this Christmas.
bucktrack - Thanks! Iron trade points started becoming a HUGE factor in the traditional American Indian arrow VERY early on. popplecop - Thanks I will post more pics as soon as I get more work done (and hopefully better pics) You can make points out of antler, and it does very well from my understanding.
