Want to swap?

Last Saturday a person approached me and stated he had "an old army gun" he wanted to swap for a gun he could hunt PA deer with next season. (In PA, semi-auto rifles and pistols are not legal hunting arms, but semi-auto shotguns are OK? WHAT???) I set up a visit and looked at the gun. It was an M1 Garand in the 5 million serial number range, post 1953 because of the Eagle with three stars above in the cartouche on the left side of the stock.

I ended up swapping a M48A 8mm bolt Mauser and an SKS for the lovely, Very Good+ Garand. The friend liked the SKS because the local Walmart has Tula Ammo 20 rounds for $5.79 and it is a fun gun to shoot. Also, he bought a few boxes of 8mm ammo for target and next deer season. What is not to like?
