Gundogs & Conibears

Hello;
I remember reading an article in a magazine several years ago about how to get a dog's head out of a conibear trap using a length of rope. I kinda know how to do it, but I would like to post these instructions on another webpage. Does anyone know of a link to a trapping website that might have these instructions, preferably with pictures? Thanks in advance.

I remember trying to expain the way to do it on some website but can't remember which one. Some one else posted a drawing of how to run the rope thru the spring eyes.

Now all I need to do is figure out where it was.

You might give www.trapperman.com a try. I think there is a forum on there If you post up there I am sure that someone can help you out

The quickest way is to cut the springs with a bolt cutter. I know when you're out hunting you don't carry a bolt cutter with you. But, if you were hunting on someone's farm they might have one.

Using about a 5 foot length of rope tie a loop that will easily fit over your boot.

The instructions for removing the trap are the same as for setting the trap.

With your boot in the loop thread the rope through both of the spring eyes and bring the rope around and do it again.

Now stand up and pull the loose end of the rope.
This will compress the spring.
With your other hand hook the safety hook.
Do the same with the other spring.

Its that simple.
