happy 4th, and got lucky on a sale.
went by my local surplus arms store and he was having something of a 4th of july sale.
He had some turk mausers and 91/30's that he had for awhile, and wanted to move them for newer stock. So i ended up with 2 91/30's in pretty decent shape, and a turk 8mm mauser for $190 out the door. all three are in good mechanical condition, wood is good, though the mausers wood has two very minor surface cracks. all three have _very_ nice bores, sharp rifiling, clean overall. am thinking of setting one of the 91/30's up for a long range plinker, leaving one stock, and leaving the mauser stock as well, though i might refinish the wood later on all of them. |

Sounds like you did OK!
I might have to follow you around on some of your surplus arms shopping expeditions. Well done. Enjoy the holiday. All the best...

Your welcome anytime Gil
![]() there's a few places around here like i try to hitup, from time to time, at least try to stopin and see what they have every 2 weeks or so. I'd had to pass on a few things, but if it's soemthign i really want, or they have a "twist-your-arm" deal going then i try to do what i can. I have found that alot of places will try to work with you, within reason, if you just talk to them. have a happy holiday, and best of luck to all. |

You raise a good point
I visit several favorite gun shops on a regular basis and have been doing so for years. We have gotten to know each other and it has been rewarding for both of us. Sometimes a shop employee or the owner will call me at work to tell me about something that just came in. I can put a "hold" on a firearm until I get down to see them. They have a "no hassle" return policy and I have only had to use it on one occasion.
It pays to develop a good relationship with gun shops. Stay cool and be safe while enjoying the holiday. All the best... Gil |

I agree Gil, it helps out alot.
alot of times indiovigual shops have "specialities" so i watch for that, and also keep my eye on others just to maybe run across that "one special deal". sure it's a long shot, but it's paid off in the past ![]() |

Hello gunpokc,
You're right on the money about gunshops specializing. We have one in Orillia, Ontario, Ellwood Epps gunshop. The old man did lots of wildcatting when he was younger. He's in his 90s now, but the younger family members have followed in his footsteps and they specialize in this SMLE rifle. I doubt if anyone this side of England has their knowledge. If you want real information about that rifle, or a good deal on one they are the people to see. I'm sure you have lots of shops in the US that operate in the same fashion. Best wishes.
