Opening day for doves
I got to the field a little after 1:00 and got out into the field with gun in hand around 1:15. By 2:30 I was done with my 12 bird limit and had shot 32 shells, 7 shells more than I wanted to use, but still acceptable.
I spent the rest of the time, until 5:00, watching my dad and uncle get their limits and working with Nitro who had a blast today. When he wasn't retrieving, he was running all over the field. I think he and I are going to sleep pretty good tonight and we are going to hit the field again tomorrow. So, how did the rest of you guys do on those fast movers?

Fiji,
Getting 9 on your second attempt at dove hunting is pretty good. Me, I grew up on dove hunting and pheasant hunting since I was 6 years old. Now I am 34, so I have a lot of experience with those speedy little targets. I also know how to pick out some good spots on the field. I went again today and got my 12 in 2 hours using 24 shells. Not as many birds flying today, but there also weren't as many hunters out there. Youngbuck, 7 out of 11 shells is really good. If everybody shot that well, the ammunition companies wouldn't make as much money. After shooting my limit yesterday and today, I spent the rest of the afternoons watching my dad, uncle, and dad's buddy miss left and right. When I finally started paying attention to their shooting, they were about a mile behind the birds when they were pulling the trigger.

Two buddies and I went out on the first and shot 42 doves by 10:00 a.m. I managed my first double ever! I shot through two boxes of shells and started to work on my third box. I was pretty tired that morning so I will use that as my excuse for using so many shells. Esox357

During my first trip we shot a four person limit in three hours. The shooting was fast and the guns were moving slow. Going out tonight. Can't wait.
