dog boots?
Just wondering what your thoughts are on dog boots for those of you that have used them on your hunting dogs. With pheasant hunting starting soon our weimeraner needs a new vest for this year and we are thinking of getting her boots, just wondering if they are worth it. She gets quite a few cuts and scrapes up her legs during the hunting season and sometimes bloody pads. Just would like to know if they really help or if they hinder your dogs performance.

I tried them once on a Golden Retriever because he tore two pads off his feet, and I mean tore off. He didn't like them in the least bit.
I had some tape on my yellow lab's foot recently to stop the bleeding from a cut and he didn't like the tape in the least bit. Dogs might get used to the booties if they wear them enough, but who knows.

It depends on the area you will be hunting in that most pheasant country in my State does not have the prickly stuff that will hurt the dog.
Western SD in certain parts boots would be a good idea. Best advice on the soft pads problem is conditioning the dog before the season gets here. There are also products you can put on the dogs pads that will help some. I have boots and they save the dogs feet in some areas and they are like anything else that they have to get used to.

dog boots are like anything else, (vest or cut collars) the dog needs to get used to them, on a young dog that has never worn a vest we will put the vest on him and let him wear for two or three days, then when you get ready to hunt ,no problem. once they are used to it they know when you dress them up it;s time to hunt
