1911A1 Magazines

I was in a gun shop today when a chap sold a 1911A1 (Norinco) and about a dozen G.I magazines. He said he was retired military and was parting with his original magazines. The curios thing is that several have part numbers stamped into the bottom of the magazines. The inscriptions on several read: "19200- Assy 5508694 MFR. 1M291". The other magazines were either parkerized or blued and without inscription. The previous owner swears these are all ex-G.I. Anyone see this before? Let me know. I bought all of the magazines. All the best...

Gil,

I have seen part numbers on bolts, operating rods and mags that were made post WWII. If the .45 mags were priced right and function well, go for it!

1911A1 Magazines

I got them for $6 each and they function perfectly in my Colts and Springfields. All the best...

The last series of letters/numbers are a cage code. I do not know if they are used in the civilian world, but I have used them for years in the Air Force when researching parts. That particular cage code "1M291" belongs to "Check-Mate Industries Inc" of New York (www address: www.checkmateindustries.com/index.asp). The only other info I found mentioned they may be Vietnam era mags. Perhaps the company can provide better info.

Many thanks for that very thorough response. i will check out the IM291 website. I did not see anything that resembled a Federal Stock Number (FSN) that I encountered in the Air Force in the 1960s. All the best...

The complete NSN for this magazine is 1005-00-550-8694. Sorry, I thought I put it in the original post. It was late, I must have spaced it. Enjoy. After I get the M4 off lawaway, a 1911 is my next goal. I expect I will probably go with the Springfield GI Model. I have been reading about Rock Island's 1911 clone, but from what I can see they take some "tweaking" to get right.

1911A1 Springfield

I managed to get a pair of Springfield 1911A1s as used NIB from a local gun shop. One was parkerized and the other is matte blue. These handguns are every bit as good as my Colts Mark IV Series 70s. Good luck to you. All the best...

1911A1 Magazines

Dan,
Here is what a chap said about these magazines. All the best...
Gil

"Sound like GI to me. The mags that the SEALS used in the 80's had numbers like that on them."
