I put a scope on my No4, Mk1.

I was sorting gear the other day and found a S&K Insta-mount that I used back in the 1960s on a No4 until the cheap scope "died" and I put the iron rear sight back on that rifle.

I got two 3X-9X scopes for Christmas. One went on the .35 Whelen and the other was installed on my favorite No4 rifle tonight with the S&K mount. Tomorrow the hound and I will go to the backyard bench and zero the scope.

I like my Enfields; the MkIIIs shoot where they look and the pre-1916 rifles have windage adjustable rear sights. The No4 peep sight is nice for old eyes, but the battle sight is a foot high at 100 yards with my 150 grain handloads. Scopes take care of that problem on the No4.

Joe,

The new scope works great; my 150 grain handloads are now one inch high at 100 yards.

My experiences tend to agree with Adam's

which 3x9 did you end up putting on the .303?

I have an ancient refield 4x on mine.
works well, and has always held true.

gumpokc,

I put the 3X-9X Leupold on the .35 Whelen and the 3X-9X Simmons on the No.4. In 1967, I bought the No.4 for $17.00. It has a mint bore and shoots better than I can hold.
