A Colt M-1917 .45 ACP Revolver.

Timing is everything. Today at the weekly "Tioga Militia" Meeting a fellow over age 60 member showed up with a Colt M1917 revolver. He got it free from a relative last year and he wanted something in the semi-auto rifle line. He now has an SKS, with accoutrements and some ammo, and I have a Colt.

Interestingly, the Colt will fire .45 ACP ammo without the halfmoon clips because there is a shoulder inside the cylinder chambers. Halfmoons make for quicker reloads in a hot corner.

Oh, well the next meeting is next Thursday at Cooper's.

Adam

Good catch

I have the Smith & Wesson Model 1917 and that will certainly handle .45 ACP rounds without half moon clips. I suggest you try that Colt without them to see if it does the same thing. Of course, without the half moon clips, extraction is a bit of a challenge. Where are the .45 Auto Rim cases when we need them? All the best...

Adam and Gil, When I was much younger I had both S&W and Colts in the 1917 versions.
All of the S&W I had had the shoulder to headspace against and could use 45 ACP without the clips. Yes, it took strong fingernails to unload the fired cases but I was young. I never had a Colt that had the shoulder, even though I heard they were out there. I currently have a S&W 1955 Target model and it will use either round, and I have many boxes of 45 'Auto Rim" to keep me out of trouble. Usually Star has 45AR brass.

Starline Brass makes 45 Auto Rim brass, but only on a backorder basis. When enough is backordered they make a batch and ship it out.

check them out at www.starlinebrass.com
