The parade and re-enactment schedule is filling up.

I am a PA Bucktail (Company E, 42nd Regt) here in Tioga County. We do about a dozen local parades a year as the color guard and also do a few skirmishes ("battles") for local historical societies. If anyone is not yet into re-enacting, I urge all to get out there and enjoy living history. There are many nice, small towns nearby that appreciate having history on site.

Our Company has no dues as we earn anywhere from $100 to $150 per parade which keeps our treasury full enough to cover our expenses. We have about 15 regular members who turn out for events.

My favorite activity is the "battle" scenario when there really are Rebs on the other side shooting (blanks) back at us. At Newtown, NY there are about 200 troops on each side in an open woods and much spectator interest for our two-day battle. I say, again, living history is a lot of fun. We always welcome new recruits for all events.

Parade Update

On Saturday, May 28, 2005 we did the Blossburg, PA parade as the color guard. The festivities were small town America at its best.

On Monday May 30 we got rained out, but enroute to the cancelled parade I saw a hugh cinnamon bear that crossed the road in front of old truck.

Ok, I may consider hunting bear with the M1853 Enfield, but I would probable choose to sit that season out as the bear has done nothing to me.

Our next parade is the Wellsboro, PA Laurel Festival parade Saturday June 18, 2005. If you do not re-enact, consider the benefits of sharing the tradition.

Hey, neat. That's my B-Day. Too bad I'm stuck on the "left coast"

Are there a lot of Union re-enactment units? I lead to believe that Confederate units were more common.

Hope you can post some pics of your guys in action or on parade!
