Classic muzzleloaders

Over the last few months I have seen some muzzleloaders on the used gun racks that are just classic. Both are Lyman Great Plains Rifles, one is a .50 and the other a .54 and they are flintlocks. Some craftsman installed brass tacks into one side of the butt stock in a unique design that is impressive. When I bought the first rifle I told the gun shop owner that the tacks were a detriment and he knocked $50 off the hang tag price. Folks that have seen the rifle are impressed.

Last Saturday, lightening struck in the same place. This rifle had an even better tack design, a leather frizzen cover on a leather thong attached to the triggerguard. The arrangement included some glass beads and a pick for the tough hole. When I sighted the rifle, I noticed a black thread and a small feather dangling from the from thimble. I had to laugh at the accessories and bought the rifle for $75 under the hang tag price. Sure wish I had a digital camera to take a few pictures. All the best...

Gil,

I have seen Winchester Model 1873 and Model 1892 arms with the "Injun Tack Job" that were bona fide Indian arms. Use the ML guns you have "tacked up" for ronneyvoo or re-enacting; to the untrained eye it will seem you have an "Injun capture gun."
