any suggestion for new scope.

It has been a long time since I bought a new gun or scope. I am getting ready to buy a Remington 700 300 ultra mag for elk hunting this season, and I want a good quality scope that will hold up to go with it. Any suggestions?

Eather a 2 1/2 to 7 or a 3 x 9 Leupold. VX 11 or if you want alittle better scope a 3 1/2 to 10 Leupold VX 111. It reall depend on how far your wantin to shoot. Under 250 yrds. I would go with the 2 1/2 x 7, over the 3 1/2 x 10 if your will to spend the extra cash. If not, the 3 x 9 is an excellant scope, I`ve got 8 or 10 of them, more than any other power.

I really like Leupold scopes. I have two Weatherbys, each with a Leupold scope and a third Weatherby with a Redfield low profile scope (not a bad scope either). It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. My opinion is that you get what you pay for when it comes to optics.
BTW Burris makes reasonably priced scopes.

I sure do agree that you get what you pay for.
I like Leupolds, too. I also like Burris, Nikon, Pentax, and Weaver Grand Slams.
The Bushnell 3200&4200 are highly rated, too- I don't own one, so I can't say for sure.
One brand I'd look at hard- real hard- before buying any top quality scope these days is Zeiss' Conquest line. The cost about what a first line Leupold or Burris costs.
If I had my choice of anyone's 3x9 in the $400 range (and I have most of the brands mentioned) I'd take the Zeiss Conquest.

Leupold VXIII 4.5 X 14 Long Range 30 MM scope. One of the clearest and nicest scopes I own(3 of them). Do almost anything you could want with one. Ain't cheap though...500+

I shoot a 300 RUM and love it. Since you are going for elk and getting the ultra mag I assume you are going for a long range shooter?

I have a 5-15x50 Bushnell Elite 3200 on mine, it has withstood several hundred rounds so far without a hitch.

If I had it to do over again I would Put on a Burris Fullfield II 4-14x42 with the ballistic plex. A friend of mine just got a 300 RUM and put one on it and I am very impressed with it. They also have a 4-16x44 in their Signature Select series I looked at in the shop the other day. VERY NICE!

The 4-14 Fullfield was $339.00 the 4-16 Select was $439.00

That ballistic plex is real nice for the long shots. And after a few tests at the range we were keeping 5 out of 5 shots in a paper plate at 500 yards. For some that may not be great, but for us thats darn good.

If your shooting factory ammo I would highly recommend the 180gr Swift Scirocco they are very accurate and have been devastating on Mule deer.
