A First Edition copy (1792) of Izaak Walton's classic "Complete Angler" for $290 is (or was) a bargain. Even a rebound copy like this one is worth more than that.
Wish I'd known. There I was on Sunday evening, with the proceeds of a gun show in my pocket...and no internet connection. sigh

Dern Rocky..
I look through the old books alot on Ebay..I just love old books. I've added a few to my collection from there. I'll keep my eyes out for you..it might go back on the block soon. I thought that was a perty good deal too. I'll send you a email iffin I see it again...er similar stuff like that. Rather see one of us git somethin like that than some city slicker lookin fer more money er some stupid crap like that. Ya know..I see alot on Ebay..and most of it belonged to some family somwheres..it's sad to think their family heirlooms winds up there. Then again..sometimes it's how folks can reconnect with their families...like the old tintypes they sell. Not to long ago there was family bible on the block for sale..my mouth dropped when I seen the last names in it..and the bible was from VA from the 1830's. But I looked through my family stuff and didn't really see any of those names but one..and the winner got it fer 50 bucks. I was gonna email him/her and offer em double what they paid fer it..but I wont 100% sure it belonged to my family. What a find nuntheless tho..I ought to try and git it anyways fer general principle..lol

It is a small world on Ebay.
A while back my son handed me a match book cover from a Chrysler dealership in Md. As soon as I saw it I knew it was from my uncles dealership by the logo. He was surprized as he never knew about this uncle. He had bought it because of the family name on it not knowing it was a relative. I search the family name all the time but the matchbook was listed with a Chrysler heading. He had clicked on the box that also showed the family name in the text of the ad. |
